Everyone agrees that Bennie is very special. His foster mother says that he is one of the most gentle dogs she has ever met. If you look at Bennie's picture you will see a very handsome tri-color beagle with a sweet smile that will just melt your heart. How can you not love that face?
Bennie is a quiet guy who very seldom barks, but when he does, it is usually one woof at a time. He loves brisk walks, food, and treats. No doubt he has a beagle appetite but he is polite and does not beg for food at the dinner table. Bennie sleeps quietly in his crate at night and knows how to use a doggie door. He gets along well with the other dog in his foster home and has done well at the dog park. Bennie is a little shy though and does not seem ready to engage in play yet. We do not know what was in his past to make him be cautious about engaging with humans but we do know that with love and patience your reward will be his absolute devotion.
Bennie does have some special needs.
Bennie was recently diagnosed with diabetes that is being well controlled with insulin. His foster mother says Bennie, in true beagle style, knows when his medicine is due and will wait patiently in the kitchen doorway to get his injection and then his treat. He is mostly housebroken but will have an occasional accident if his blood sugar is thrown off by too many treats. We know there is a perfect forever home for Bennie and a quiet, gentle person will definitely have a kindred soul with Bennie!
** It is easy to be concerned about the price of medicine for Bennie but the truth of the matter is that for less than the cost of a good cup of coffee you can purchase both the Insulin and the syringes needed for him. The daily cost of Insulin($0.60) and syringes($0.70) for Bennie is approximately $1.30 per day. It is possible that syringes can be purchased for less than our estimate depending on quantity and where they are purchased. **
