05/31/13 UPDATE: Princess is doing great in her new life! She is still learning to trust, but has made some significant progress... she comes when she's called - that's awesome! And her foster mom said this morning she was running around really excited about breakfast! That was a first! Princess is doing great with the other dogs in her foster home, although she is not quite ready yet to play with them... but she watches them. She sleeps quietly throughout the night and, typical beagle -she eats well! At first when taken out in her fenced yard, she would go to the farthest corner of the yard and foster mom would have to go get her. But now she doesn't go to farthest corner, and now she comes when they call her.
05/04/13 Here is PRINCESS, the senior Beagle that arrived from the Panhandle today. She was very cautious when I picked her up from the transport and when we got home PRINCESS went to the furthest corner of the patio and tried to become one of the ...plastic statues, as you can see from the photo. She needs to be spayed and, I fear, may be going into heat. Hard to tell if her teeth are really bad or just need a good cleaning, which we will do when she is spayed. Her ears were very sensitive when I started to clean them so we will start her on some ear meds immy. Her right eye is partially cloudy, but I believe she sees out of it. I thought I saw her limp a little on her left front leg, and will watch that closer tomorrow. Our friend Bonnie, who told us about PRINCESS, did a great job of getting rid of all the fleas and ticks and I did not see any when giving her a bath. I guess you can say Princess is not in bad shape for the shape she is in. Right now she is curled up sound asleep and I hope she understood when I told her that she was safe and no one would ever hurt her again!
